Premio Colibrí en Arte Literaria: Honrando Yuyi Morales

Renowned children's author/illustrator Yuyi Morales will receive the Hummingbird Award in Literary Arts and speak about her life and works, and sign books. For all ages.

Presented by the Hispanic Resource Center and the Tulsa Library Trust, the biennial award honors nationally prominent authors, poets or artists of Latinx descent whose work has significantly elevated and affirmed the voice of the Latinx community. Morales' books will be available for purchasing at the event. 

About Yuyi Morales: 
Yuyi Morales was born in Xalapa, Mexico, the city of flowers and springs. After migrating to the U.S. in 1994, she struggled with English and loneliness in a culture foreign to her but found solace in public libraries, where she read children's books with her son and discovered a renewed interest in stories and art. She is now the author and illustrator of many books for children, including the New York Times bestseller Dreamers; her most recent book, Little Rebels; and she is a seven-time winner of the Pura Belpré Medal for an outstanding work of literature for children that best portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience. Other honors include the Americas Award, the Golden Kite Medal, the Christopher Award, the Jane Adams Award and the Tomas Rivera Award. In 2015 she received the Caldecott Honor for her book Viva Frida.

Acerca de Yuyi Morales:
Yuyi Morales nació en Xalapa, Veracruz, México, la ciudad de las flores y los manantiales. Después de emigrar a los Estados Unidos en 1994, tuvo que adaptarse al inglés y luchar con la soledad en una cultura que le resultaba extraña, pero encontró consuelo en las bibliotecas públicas, donde leía libros infantiles con su hijo y descubrió un nuevo interés por las historias y el arte. Actualmente es autora e ilustradora de numerosos libros para niños, entre los que se incluyen el éxito de ventas del *New York Times* *Dreamers* y su libro más reciente, *Little rebels*; además, ha ganado en siete ocasiones la Medalla Pura Belpré, que se otorga a una obra literaria infantil extraordinaria que mejor retrata, afirma y celebra la experiencia cultural latina.
