Genealogy Detectives: Headstone Hunters
LOCATION: Memorial Park Cemetery, 5111 S. Memorial Drive
Saturday, October 24
10:00am - 11:30am
Join us in the cemetery to find and photograph headstones. Learn to add images to Find a Grave to preserve local heritage and connect families with their history. Registration is encouraged.
Thousands of people use the Find a Grave genealogy website and app to find their ancestors' burial places, but many records are missing pictures of the headstones. At this program, you will learn how to become a Find a Grave Photo volunteer and take pictures of headstones to complete these records.
We will meet at the Memorial Park Cemetery in the Family Center building near the 51st Street and Memorial Drive entrance. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your smartphone or digital camera. We will use maps to walk around the cemetery and use our smartphones and cameras to document our findings. Supplies and instructions for making your own gravestone rubbings will also be provided. Registration is encouraged so we know how many people to expect.
