Leaving Home: The Refugee Experience
Thursday, February 20
7:00pm - 8:30pm
Hardesty Regional Library
Frossard AuditoriumCourageous Community Conversations is a reading and discussion program designed to give attendees the opportunity to engage in authentic, enlightening dialogue on challenging topics.
This event introduces participants to the rich tapestry of refugees in the Tulsa area. "The Ungrateful Refugee" by Dina Nayeri will be our primary text for discussion, detailing personal accounts and insights into the refugee experience. For those who are more drawn to fiction, "Exit West" by Mohsin Hamid provides a thought-provoking perspective on similar issues through the lens of magical realism. Participants are encouraged to join in an eye-opening exchange of ideas as we seek to gain insight into the unique challenges refugees in our community encounter and the strengths they bring.
